10 Years of the International Seafarers' Center The Bridge

On 24 September, we joined our colleagues at The Bridge in Rotterdam to celebrate a special milestone: their 10th anniversary.

Representing the International Seafarers’ Centre Antwerp, our social workers Bram Winkelmans and Nandi Moyo were delighted to be there to personally congratulate the team at The Bridge. It was a warm and welcoming occasion, with wonderful encounters, interesting conversations and a great opportunity to get to know each other better.

For us, this celebration was about more than just an anniversary. It was also a first personal meeting between colleagues from two seafarers’ centres that, although active in different ports, share the same mission: being there for seafarers who are far away from home.

Two ports, one shared mission

Both Antwerp and Rotterdam welcome seafarers from all over the world. For many of them, a visit to a seafarers’ centre can be an important moment of rest, connection and support. A place to step away from the ship, meet others, have someone to talk to, or simply feel welcome.

This shared mission provides a strong foundation for exchanging experiences and knowledge and for supporting one another wherever possible. Our meeting in Rotterdam was therefore a valuable first step and, we hope, the beginning of many more meaningful contacts and future collaborations.

We look back with great pleasure on the warm welcome and the wonderful conversations during the anniversary celebration. On behalf of the entire team at the International Seafarers’ Centre Antwerp, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to The Bridge on 10 years of dedication to the maritime community. We wish the whole team many more successful and meaningful years ahead!
