Visit to the Crew Following the Incident in Kallo
Visit to the Crew Following the Incident in Kallo
On 14 July 2026, a serious chemical incident occurred on board a container ship at the Deurganck Dock in the Port of Antwerp. A container carrying hydrogen fluoride (HF) was damaged, allowing the hazardous substance to escape. Emergency services responded with a large-scale operation, established a safety perimeter, and worked to bring the situation under control. After the damaged container had been secured, the vessel had to be thoroughly cleaned and declared safe before the crew could resume their normal duties.
A few days later, we visited the crew together with Stella Maris. We brought small gifts and, most importantly, took the time to talk with the seafarers. Through this visit, we wanted to offer our support, encourage the crew, and let them know they were not alone following this difficult experience.
The visit was greatly appreciated by the crew and once again showed how much a listening ear and a simple gesture of kindness can mean during challenging times.
